Supported
Employment
|
Our
Supported Employment program assists individuals to
find meaningful work opportunities by preparing them
for employment and helping to locate and maintain employment.
We offer a variety of job readiness services to people
living with mental illness who are ready to either develop
their careers in new areas or return to a field in which
they have had previous experience.
|
STRIDE
uses an approach that encourages people to make their
own choices and to assert their own independence.
The Supported Employment component of our services has undergone
significant growth and development over the past year. We
offer quality services and have adjusted our services to
reflect the changing needs of the individuals we serve.
STRIDE’s
work in the area of Supported Employment has resulted
in clients finding and sustaining meaningful employment
opportunities, and as a result, experiencing the many
significant benefits that stem from the world of work.
Employment promotes recovery for individuals by enhancing
their roles, increasing self-esteem, sense of purpose,
self-empowerment, and fulfillment in life by contributing
to society.

Ontario
Disability Supports Program
Employment Supports:
|
STRIDE
continues to be a service provider
for the Ontario Disability Supports
Program-Employment Supports (ODSP-ES).
Over the past year, we have improved
upon and further developed the services
available to ODSP-ES recipients to
include a wider range of services,
which are responsive to the growing
needs of our population.
In
2006, in order to improve access
to employment for people with disabilities,
the Ministry of Community and Social
Services (MCSS) announced a transformation
of the ODSP-ES system. This new
system will improve access to employment
services, such as job placement
and retention support, to help recipients
and their families find & keep
jobs. The new delivery model for
ODSP-ES will increase the time STRIDE
spends on employment preparation,
job development and retention.

Employment
Resource Centres:
Our three recently established Employment Resource Centres
have modern computers and related software for people to
practice and learn computer skills. They are well equipped
with audio-visual equipment, an excellent supply of employment
related videos and DVD’s, assessment tools and other
written material for clients to use to self-empower themselves.
The
Employment Resource Centres provide up-to-date technology,
an encouraging environment and tools to enable clients
to reach their goals. Individuals can independently
take advantage of job search videos, the internet
to search for jobs, e-mail addresses and the fax machine
